Out with “Hotlanta” and in with the “New South!”

Last night, the Black Eyed Peas performed an amazing show at the Philips Arena and Boom Boom Pow is right! While Atlantans have always been supportive of the Black Eyed Pea, and of course still are, one major mistake was made! What, you might be asking yourself? Where do I start?

A popular radio show in Atlanta, Q100’s The Bert Show, has started a campaign to ban the use of the word “hotlanta”. Atlantans feel it reflects a poor light on Atlanta and all we have to offer. The first people to use the word “Hot ‘lanta”, however, were the Allman Brothers Band in 1971. It was the title of an instrumental song they performed. Hotlanta, to be honest with y’all, is not a word we natives use anyways. It’s a word that was used for marketing purposes. It was brought back by Nelly with “country grammar”, and every once in a while you would hear it in another song. In the last decade it caught on. Whenever anyone thought of Atlanta from outside the state that’s what they thought of. “Hotlanta” fails to reflect the strides Atlanta has taken. We are now epitomizing the refined southern chic as we roll into the new decade!!

So what does this have to do with the Black Eyed Peas? Well apparently no one had informed them of our disdain for the word. They were at no fault of their own; they were just going with what they knew. However, as excited as the audience was for the show, there were a few “H” bombs dropped as Will.I.Am, Fergie and the rest of the gang took stage. There was a soft booing that you could hear spreading in crowd. The Black Eyed Peas did quickly recover and ATL replaced the “H” word. The remainder of the show did go off without a hitch. The audience loved every minute of it! So, my sincerest apologies to the Black Eyed Peas. We hope to see you again soon. Next time we will show you the Southern Hospitality and charm that we are known for and so proud of.

As far as up and comings for this weekend, what does Atlanta have in store? Well Football and Cheerleaders is the theme of course! We are starting out this weekend with a major cheerleading competition taking place this weekend and just in time!! Cheersport Limited’s annual competition starts TODAY February 5 and runs through Sunday so don’t be surprised to see the city filled with some of the most athletic women in the country right here in Atlanta!! We here at the Inn at the Peachtrees are so excited to have participants of the competition staying with us and wish them luck!! Then, in case you forgot, which I doubt many of you did, it is SUPERBOWL SUNDAY!!!! So what are your plans? Saints or Colts?? Sounds like its gonna be a great weekend to me!
